Welcome to STEEL PROFILE® magazine edition 98

Welcome to BlueScope Steel’s new-look Steel Profile, Australia’s pre-eminent publication exploring the exciting possibilities and developments in the architectural use of steel.

Following our 2006 reader survey - which gained responses from more than 38 per cent of 2000 readers polled - we determined that enhancements would help strengthen what is already an enormously popular publication, stretching over the past 25 years.

We know more than 80 per cent of readers are either architects or designers. We know you find the publication interesting, inspiring and that you circulate the publication within your organisation, and file it as a reference tool.

Interestingly, you want even more images, more product and technical information, and pointers to online technical information.

In light of these findings, the Steel Profile team is implementing a number of evolutionary changes, starting with this issue. Instead of producing four editions a year (of 32 pages each), we will now produce three a year (with an increase to 44 pages).

As well as our regular round of four project profiles, we will be including profiles of architectural and design firms working with steel, interviews with architects on a range of issues, including sustainability, recyclability and mass production, as well as an occasional section - called Innovations - in which we will feature the latest steel product developments and enhancements within an architectural context.

We will also highlight online services tailored for architects and designers wishing to work with steel.

In this issue, we look at the concept of architecturally designed, mass-produced housing through the eyes of Sydney architectural and design couple Sue Harper and Andy Irvine, and at the latest development in steel facades.

Finally, we wish to continue building on our already close working relationship with our reader community. If you believe you have a project or development that would appeal to the Steel Profile community, please contact us. We’d be delighted to consider them in our upcoming round of editorial meetings.

Every project is different and not all products are suitable for all applications, projects and environments. Some products may perform better than others in certain applications and conditions. BlueScope generally recommends the use of COLORBOND® steel or ZINCALUME® steel for the majority of external cladding applications.

BlueScope recommends routine preventative maintenance for eaves and other “unwashed areas” of structures that may not be regularly cleaned by rainfall. To determine the most suitable material for your project, please contact your supplier or visit STEEL SELECT®. For information about product maintenance, including preventative maintenance, please call BlueScope on 1800 753 658. To determine whether a warranty may be available for use of a product in your particular project, please visit the BlueScope Warranties website.
